Senior Associate

Hana Čekalová is a banking and finance practitioner with over 15 years' experience advising clients on the entire spectrum of finance transactions, regulatory matters and insolvency proceedings. She is Czech law qualified and holds an English Masters in Commercial and Corporate Law.

As a key member of the Prague office's Banking & Finance team, Hana has gained significant industry expertise from her involvement on some of the largest financing transactions in the Czech Republic and across the wider region. Hana has also significant experience in funding and regulatory aspects of fintech business.

Hana co-authored a banking and finance law book for legal practitioners and bankers called "Banking & Finance. General practice." published by C. H. Beck in 2023.

Relevant experience

  • Advising Raiffeisen Bank International, Raiffeisenbank Česká republika and WOOD & Company, as the Joint Global Coordinators (JGCs) on the initial public offering (IPO) of Doosan Škoda Power on the Prague Stock Exchange.
  • Advising Czechoslovak Group (CSG), a Czech industrial group with a strong international presence, on its landmark acquisition of Vista Outdoor’s ammunition division, Kinetic Group, for approximately USD 2.23 billion. This historic transaction represents the largest-ever investment by a Czech company in the United States, marking a significant milestone in the highly strategic defense sector.
  • Advising KKCG on the largest commercial bond issuance for retail investors in the Czech history. The issuance, totalling up to 10 billion CZK, has received approval from the Czech National Bank and marks a significant milestone for KKCG.
  • Advising Československá obchodní banka, one of the major Czech banks, on the financing of the acquisition of Solarpark Kameničná by a member of the Enery Development group.
  • Advising a club of banks led by UniCredit Bank Czech Republic and Slovakia, as mandated lead arranger and sole global coordinator, and with Česká spořitelna, Československá obchodní banka, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Intesa Sanpaolo, Komerční banka, Raiffeisenbank and Všeobecná úverová banka as arrangers, in connection with green and sustainability-linked long-term secured club financing relating to Czech residential portfolio located in Ostrava and Pilsen provided to Heimstaden Czech and guaranteed by Heimstaden Czech Pilsen and Heimstaden Bostad.
  • Advising Československá obchodní banka and Česká spořitelna on the financing of acquisition of Pivovary CZ Group, which includes renowned beer brands such as Holba, Zubr, and Litovel, by Kofola Group acquiring the majority stake, together with the investment group RSJ and the agricultural group Úsovsko. 
  • Advising a club of major Czech banks coordinated by Komerční banka and Československá obchodní banka and further consisting of Citibank Europe, Česká spořitelna and UniCredit Bank Czech Republic and Slovakia in connection with the financing of the acquisition of TESCAN ORSAY HOLDING, a leading manufacturer of electron microscopes and other high-tech scientific instruments, by Carlyle.
