The new Act on class actions and its practical impacts
The new law, which transposes the EU Directive on representative actions for the protection of the collective interests of consumers, aims to strengthen the position of consumers and make it easier for them to assert their rights even if the individual claims represent insignificant amounts. Come and discuss with us the key aspects of the new law, its practical impacts (especially on potential defendants) and the expected challenges that the application of this law will bring.
Together we will discuss:
- A brief introduction to the new Act on Collective Actions
- Basic conditions for filing a collective action (subjects, requirements, admissibility conditions, etc.)
- A model course of collective proceedings and identification of the pitfalls that defendants may face during their course
- Possibilities of defense in the position of the defendant and the issue of remedies
- The mechanism for reimbursement of costs of proceedings in collective proceedings
- Publicity of collective proceedings and its limits
Speakers:
- Tomáš Brožek, Senior Associate
- Jan Dobrý, Counsel
